Creating Stability in Instability

We live in duality. Think about it, would there be up without down? Light without dark? How about hot without cold? Yet in reality, these are all points on a continuum, parts of the whole. So while to many it appears this is a time of instability rather than stability, it's really all part of a natural cycle. And aren't cycles a natural part of life? Here's the key - there are always opportunities along the duality spectrum when you have an open mind and perspective.

Consider this business duality. Right now there are clients who are selling off property assets and others who find this an ideal time to buy properties. Clients who are rolling out team motivation campaigns to acknowledge success, and others who are cutting staff to minimize costs. And some firms curse the internet for changing the old business model while others are thriving with the new marketing opportunities.

Whether you are seeing opportunities to stabilize and even expand...is all relative to your perspective. The feeling of instability can be a great mother-of-invention. Use this time to create better systems, stronger teams and solid results. Here's how:

- Focus- Notice where you're placing your attention. If you're stuck in the muck of problems, it's tough to do creative solution thinking.

- Brainstorming - Involve your team in solution creation. Those closest to the customers have great and too often untapped perspectives.

- Clarity - Ensure all understand the most important goals. What is number one and how are you measuring it today?

- Communicate - Make sure the team is informed of changes and progress. Staying in closer touch brings peace of mind for all.

- Appreciate - Let people know that you value their contributions at this dynamic time. Show your appreciation with words of praise, kind gestures and unexpected niceties.

Moving from a feeling of instability to stability doesn't have to be difficult. It does however require that you focus on what you can do rather than cannot do. Where do you choose to focus on the sliding continuum of duality? Choose to feel better. Choose what brings results. You'll be glad you did!
